‘Of Mud and Lotus’s is Dutch photographer Viviane Sassen’s second collaboration with Japanese collective ’artbeat publishers’. In the book, Sassen presents a series of offbeat and abstract photographs, offering an imagery rife with associative references and layers.
In Sassen’s photos, trivial objects and seemingly coincidental situations become - sometimes through Sassen’s intervening with paint or collage - transformed and twisted, both in meaning and appearances, until their original forms are hardly recognisable.
