Fantastic volume that reveals Boas’ personal fascination for the sex industry. The book integrates portraits of porn film stars, hustlers, some of Boas partners, strip and sex clubs. Boas was known for snapping the glitterati but he found his glitter when turning his lens to a spotlight of a different hue, photographing the strippers, hustlers, and amateur performers of downtown Manhattan. In “New York Sex: 1979-1985,” Boas captures the beaming young men and women of decades past as they flash their way through dingy discos, act sexy on street corners, and graciously pose in front of their own publicity posters—unquestionable celebrities in their own right.
